Blue Canoe Brewing Co. is made up of Ida Cowan, Laura Berryhill, and Patrick Cowan. Ida and Laura worked together at a local hospital and became friends. Laura and Ida share an enjoyment of design, with particular emphasis on utilizing upcycled and antique materials. Together Ida and Laura began building furniture utilizing antique and upcycled materials. Over time, Ida's husband, Patrick, also became friends with Laura and they discovered they shared a love of beer and both had beer brewing backgrounds. Patrick and Laura began brewing beer together. At this point Ida was certainly not a beer person, even going so far as to profess her disdain for beer. That is, until Laura and Patrick crafted The Whittler just for Ida. She loved it, and began to think maybe there is something more here. As Laura and Patrick continued to brew together, the inevitable talks of "wouldn't it be great to have our own brewery" sprung up. Ida continued to enjoy their creations and found her own love of beer, as well. The three of them worked to turn dreams into plans, and, approximately a year later, Blue Canoe Brewing Co. was born and opened on December 6, 2014.
