Pittsburgh is a city steeped in a rich history, climbing up from numerous hillsides, to spanning and wrapping around the banks of the three rivers.
With the northern banks of the Allegheny and Ohio rivers serving as the background, the Rooney Family opened their first family pub on the corner of Corey and General Robinson Streets, later to be home to Three Rivers Stadium.
The Rooney family is famous for their Irish roots, football, racetracks and soon will be known for another part of their storied past: BEER! Their roots go back to the turn of the 20th century when Dan Rooney (Father of Art Sr. – “The Chief”) opened their family pub on the corner of Corey and General Robinson Streets, later to be home to Three Rivers Stadium.
In 1933, the family would expand the business to brewing at the General Braddock Brewing Company, in Braddock, Pennsylvania. Four Beers were produced: Rooney’s Irish Red Ale, Rooney’s Lager, Rooney’s Pilsner and Veterans & Civilian Pilsner / Lager blend. The handcrafted family brewing heritage continues today, at the historic Pennsylvania Brewing Company. The Rooney’s celebrate both its Celtic and Pittsburgh Pride with the next generation of brews with Rooney’s Old Irish Ale and Rooney’s Lager.
